Don’t Run! (#64)

Don't Run!

My little girl Neave was wanting to do some craft this afternoon after childcare and she asked for some scissors. Once Elle had given them to her, Neave held them the proper way and moving at a glacial pace started walking towards her little table. It was very cute to see how slow she was going because she knew… you don’t run with scissors 🙂

Fear and Loathing (#61)

Football season is over...

I’m a huge Hunter S. Thompson fan. His style and the mythos surrounding the man himself has always amazed me. He influenced a new genre of journalism dubbed gonzo and had the knack of not only putting himself into the story, but could pull in the reader in with him, wide-eyed and scared shitless.

I was watching a documentary on Hunter yesterday and became to appreciate the man even more so today’s One a Day is a tribute to the main himself.

Ralph Steadman, Hunter’s go to Illustrator with his hectic, insane ink-stained illustrations, is also a hero of mine. I didn’t want to copy Ralph’s style, but the text within Hunter’s glasses is a tip of the hat the Steadman’s typography.

I’m off to Sydney today for work so the next two One a Day’s will be done from there!

Backyard Rocketship (#60)

Backyard Rocketship

I was watching the trailer for the new JJ. Abrams/Spielberg Produced movie Super 8. The tone of the film is very much like E.T., Close Encounters etc… capturing that eighties kid feel of anything being possible while riding your bike all day and never getting tired. I was thinking of all the crazy stuff we did as kids, like underground forts with elaborate tunnel systems, searching for caves and designing rockets to head into space!

The 1982 Giraffewear Fashion Annual (#58)

1982 GiraffeWear Fashion Annual

It’s 1982. Gone are the days where any self-respecting giraffe can get away with a simple coat of uneven squares. This season features natural-fibre turtle neck sweaters in a range of bright and vibrant colours.

Thought I’d keep with the animal theme today but have a bit of fun with it and really, what isnt fun about an albino giraffe in a turtle-neck sweater.

The Turtle Illustration (#57)

RIGHTEOUS!

For today’s illustration I thought I’d continue with the animal theme I had going before I ruined it with the Letter B from yesterday 🙂

Speaking of yesterday, the blog ended up with 3000 hits from being featured on Freshly Pressed! Thanks to everyone who commented and subscribed to the blog, makes it all worth while to get feedback from all of you lovely people!

I also had a few people ask if I had the illustrations available as prints. The only problem is I can’t really afford to do all of them as screen-prints but if there is a select few people would like to buy a print or two, maybe comment on the blog about which ones you think would work and if the same ones are being requested Ill look into getting some done.

The Letter B (#56)

The Letter B

Wow, what a day it’s been… The Creative Panic made it all the way to the front page of WordPress.com, being featured in Freshly Pressed! Thanks to everyone who commented on the blog and who have subscribed. I hope you enjoy my daily illustrations! 🙂

Today’s illustration is another typographical one, featuring the letter B.
